About Rev Dietrich D. Neufeld
- Note: Dietrich became an evangelist of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He came to homestead in the North West Territories via North Dakota at the same time as his parents in 1893. The land he occupied was on the north end of what is now Waldheim, Saskatchewan. He returned to the States in ministry, however, when, their eleven year old daughter died in a diphtheria epidemic in 1900 they made fresh decisions. In 1902 Diedrich moved his family back to Waldheim, Saskatchewan, to operate a blacksmith shop and in harvest time, a threshing machine. When Diedrich D. Neufeld's wife, Maria Spenst died, Bertha was only a few days old. So, Dietrich D. Neufeld's Sr. raised her as their own child. D.D. went back to the states to marry the widow of David Stoesz and brought her two children along and they had an additional seven surviving children. The last two children listed were likely born before the family had an auction sale in 1924 and her husband D. D. went into full time ministry. D.D.'s third marriage lasted 31 years; this last marriage brought together more than two dozen half-brothers and sisters. In August of 1973 thirteen survivors of these unions with 150 nephews and nieces got together in reunion in White Rock, British Columbia with the oldest attending at the age of 84 years.
