Thelma Myrtle Oinonen Obituary With deeply saddened hearts, but cherished memories the family of Thelma Oinonen resident of Roseview Manor announce her passing into the arms of her Lord on Friday, November 20, 2015 with her family by her side.

Thelma was born in Port Arthur, on July 23, 1927 to parents Henry and Aili Erickson. She was brought up in the Lutheran Faith. She grew up in Nolalu and met her first husband Theodore Oinonen. They were married November 3, 1945 and were blessed with two children Ervin and Myrtle.

Thelma was a wonderful loving mother, grandmother (Mummu) and great grandmother, and will always be remembered for her cooking and baking, especially her Finnish pancakes. Mummu loved her ice cream and chocolates to the very end and taught her grandchildren that these could be enjoyed anytime. “CHOCOLATE FIXES EVERYTHING”. She cherished having time to spend with her grandchildren.

In her earlier years Mom worked at various bush camps as a cook and this is where she learned to make all those fabulous and delicious home cooked meals.

In 1956 the family moved to Port Arthur, ON where she was the manager and caretaker of the Finnish Labour Temple now known as the Finlandia Club. In 1966 she began working as a bookkeeper and later Treasurer Manager of Apple Community Credit Union, retiring in 1976 due to health issues.

Mom loved to travel spending winters in Tucson, Arizona with her husband and later going on Carribian cruises, Venezuela, and Europe. She loved to shop and browse and anywhere, anytime was her motto.

She was predeceased by her husband Theodore in 1983. She met her second husband Kalevi Pulkkinen in 1996 and they were married in 2001.

Leaving to mourn her passing are her son; Ervin (St. Catharines, ON), grandchildren; Kirsten (Russ) and their children Kaija and Seija, Erik (Linda) and their children Theodore and Natalie (Victoria, BC), Anders (Suzie) (Toronto, ON), Brittany and Meaghan (St. Catharines, ON), her daughter Myrtle Korkola, granddaughter Sherri Krywy (Todd) and their children Justin and Kaitlyn, grandson Dale (Diana) and their daughter Dana (Coronach, SK), sister in law Mabel Hagberg (Fred) and Lila Oinonen, and also numerous nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her first husband Theodore, second husband Kalevi, her parents Henry and Aili Erickson, sister; Violet (Allan) Ojala, brother; William (Margaret) Erickson, brother in law Raynald in infancy, son in law Robert Korkola in 2014 and numerous sisters and brothers in law as well as nephews.

We would like to thank the staff of Roseview Manor for taking such wonderful care of Mom for the past 6 years as she battled with Alzheimers. They treated her with utmost respect and always made sure she had her ice cream and chocolates, when her family couldn't be there.
