Theuns Smith (1951 - 2003)
Brief overview:
Theuns (51), was shot dead in the Geluk area, near Brits, by an intruder, on 27th March 2003, when he arrived home, after closing his shop for the day, North West police said. Inspector Tyrone Seate said Theuns and three farm workers were unloading goods from his bakkie in the garage when Smith was that the kitchen window was open. "He went into the house to investigate, and was shot in the chest and died instantly," Seate said.
One of Smiths workers saw the armed perpetrator running away. Smith's wife, Kiewiet, who was in in Pretoria that day, and upon her return, the worker warned her not go inside. A neighbour was contacted and when he arrived to investigate, he discovered the farmer's body. Seate said it was not yet known how many intruders were at the farm, but only one was seen.
