About Thom Williamson Blair, III

Hi! I've done a lot in my life and have satisfied so many of my desires that I really don't have a lot left I'm really eager to do.

I really seem to have been on the "road less traveled" for most of my life, having had some very unusual experiences, some quite remarkable. I seem to fall into the "2 percent of the population" category in quite a number of areas in my life. As I get to know you, you can find out more about me, but here is one for now: I appear to be one of a VERY small number of people on earth with a hypermobile tongue--I can fully insert my tongue back up behind my soft pallet and all the way up into my nasopharengyl cavity so that I can even run my tongue up the vomer (the thin bone that divides the two nostrils.) This is quite rare--according to one medical journal I read, as of 2006 there were only 2 recorded cases of this ability in all medical records written in English! I even have made a video of it you can see if you want in my "Media" section of my profile (it turned out quite well, I was pleased.)

I've traveled all over the world: China, Thailand, India, USSR, Holland, Germany, Virgin Islands, Nova Scotia, Hawaii and all around the US. As a result, I don't have much desire to travel anymore, except I'd still enjoy going to beaches, particularly exotic tropical ones. Scuba diving in college was fun but truly nothing can compare to snorkeling in the Virgin Islands back before the reef die-off mid 90's or so. It was really amazing and really inspired a love of the beautiful tropical ocean life and environment.

After college I spent 10 years devoted to full-time research in consciousness while living in a men's meditation group practicing Transcendental Meditation and I just LOVED it! I absolutely loved the experiences of higher states of consciousness, as well as exploring the realms of the mind and it's relationship to the body.

I like languages a lot. I've learned to speak French and Mandarin Chinese, but now both are mostly just faint memories due to decades of not using either. Back in school, I spent time learning Latin, some late Middle English (Chaucer), and Old English (Beowulf), but most recently I've spent a lot of time reading Vedic Sanskrit texts on Yoga and Vedic Philosophy.

I also spent a long time programming computers back in high school, mostly making video games and artsy things, but have let that go in favor of digital art: I love Photoshop and have worked professionally doing 2D and 3D desktop publishing (posters, book covers, brochures), as well as 2D and 3D educational animations for the worldwide Transcendental Meditation organization. Now I enjoy doing digital painting and photoshopping on a regular basis just for fun.

I've also done a fair amount of computer hardware and software work, building custom systems for some companies over the years.

One other thing that's interesting is that many people on both my Mom's side and my Father's side of our family are very interested in genealogy. On my Father's side, we've had our genealogy traced back to Charlemagne and had that line verified by the U.S. Order of the Crown of Charlemagne genealogical society. Needless to say, we are no longer royalty, but it's an interesting conversational piece! ;) Other notable lineages we've documented are one back to Sureties of the Magna Charta--seemingly 14 of the 17 Sureties with descendants are my many times great grandfathers and the rest are relatives. I don't know how common that is, but I expect I'll find out soon with a little research.

These days I'm in between things and am just taking it easy. I'm living with my mother in Farmville, VA and enjoying myself exploring future opportunities.
