About Thomas Henry Albritton

On a Sunday morning after church service, the men had gathered to one side and were discussing events of the day. One of the men in the group mentioned that his hog lard was getting low. The men agreed to meet the next day to go on a hog hunt. Since the hunt was strictly a hog hunt they decided not to carry a gun as it would be in the way. The dogs accompanied the men and at one point they jumped a panther. The chase was short and the panther climbed a large live oak. The men decided they had to get a muzzle-loader. The panther had to be killed as pigs were his prey. While they awaited Cicero Platt's return with the muzzle-loader, the dogs jumped another panther which refused to climb a tree. He backed up against a blown-over stup and began fighting the dogs. Thomas and his sons went to the dog-panther fight while Marion Platt was oft to guard the panther in the tree. By the yells of the dogs, it seemed as if the panther was getting the best end of the fight and ould probably kill one or two of their dogs. Thomas with great courage and strength waded into the patch where the fighting was taking place. Then with a sledge-hammer fist blows assisted his bleeding dogs until he finally killed the panther. Opening his pocket knife, he cut the panther's throat and dragged him out of the patch. Soon they killed the other panther in the tree with the muzzle-loader. The men decided to return home from hunting and enjoyed a large meal.
