According to his Washington State death record, Thomas was the son of Sylvester Alvord and Lucy Hall.

"T. M. ALVORD, AGED PIONEER, DIES
Resident of White River Valley Since 1850 - Prominent in Many Undertakings
Thomas M. Alvord died at Kent, Wash., at 4:15 a.m. March 21, 1918, after an illness of a few weeks. His son A. S. Alvord and Mrs. A. S. Alvord were at his side at the time of his death.
He was born at Homer, N. Y., Feb. 26, 1832. He left New York for California in November of 1853 where he engaged in gardening and mining in Calaven's County until June 1858. At the time of the gold excitement in British Columbia he went up the Frazier River.
In February 1859 he located at White River, on what is now known as the Alvord farm near Kent, where he engaged in farming on a large scale. In the fall of 1859 he returned to New York where he married Maria Julia Smith Dec. 8, 1859. He returned with his bride by way of the Isthmus of Panama and settled in their pioneer home, at which time Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Neely were their nearest relatives.
He leaves three sons, Elisha H., Irving I. and Albert S. Alvord and two Alvord. (typo?)
For several years he has been a member of the borrowed Time Club of Seattle, an organization, of whose membership is composed of men, who have outlived their allotted time of 'three score years and ten'.
Funeral services over the remains will be held next Sunday at 3 o'clock at the Methodist church."
