About Thomas Barker Barker-Benfield

At Middlesex Industrial School Feltham in 1861 Census



Tom Barker Benfield was the natural child of Anna Louisa Barker of Cambridge, who later married George Benfield, one-time tailor and later college servant in Cambridge University. Tom was a master at Feltham Industrial School in 1861 but had joined the staff of the Redhill Farm School by 1864, replacing George Lawson, who died in 1863, as head of Gladstone House, He remained there until after 1881, but by 1891 had taken the position of Superintendent and Headmaster, Clyde House Orphanage, Kingham Hill, Oxfordshire. (His position as head of Gladstone House was taken by Jesse Robert Jones between 19 January 1886 and 11 February 1887)
