About Thomas Benedict
GEDCOM Note
“Benedicts in America" FHL 929.273 B434
Thomas Benedict was a son of James Benedict and Sarah (Gregory) Benedict. [1][2] He was born 9 November 1694,[1][2] either in Norwalk, Connecticut, where his parents were married, or in Danbury, Connecticut, where his father moved later. Because his father sold his property in Norwalk on 26 March 1691,[3] it is likely that the family was living in Danbury by the time of Thomas's birth. [4]
Thomas was married to Abigail Hoyt, daughter of John Hoyt, who was among the first settlers in Danbury. [2][5]
Children of Thomas and Abigail (Hoyt) Benedict were:[6]
- Sarah,
- Molly who married Joseph Starr,
- Thomas,
- Thaddeus,
- Elizabeth who married James Taylor,
- Elisha,
- Margaret,
- Robert,
- Mindwell who married a Hamilton,
- Thankful who married Nathan Gregory,
- Hannah who married Samuel Perry, and
- maybe Jemima who married a Hamilton
He was a justice of the peace, appointed May 1738, and first judge of the district. He was a member of the Connecticut legislatue for many years.
