Thomas Bishop who was living in Berkeley County (West) Virginia at thetime of the Revolutio nary War, was a 'private in a company designated atvarious timesas Capt. Marquis Calmes' Co mpany, and Capt. ThomasCatlett's Company, 2nd Virginia Regt. commanded successively by Col .Alex. Spotswood and Col. Christian Fobiger. He enlisted 17 Sept. 1776,for the war and wa s discharged 25 April 1779,' according to the Adj.General's Office, War Dept., Washington D. C. Abstracts from Will Books at Annapolis, MD (Swem's Virignia Index:13v(1)33: At a court hel d for Berkeley County, 17 day of November 1778:Ordered that Sarah Bishop, wife of Thomas Bi shop, a soldier in theContinental Service, be allowed ten pounds for her susbsistence for th epresent year."
