According to outdated research by Bond, Thomas, from Fenchurch Street, London, was one of the sons of Thomas Boylston, a cloth worker of London, who died 1648, and brother of John, Edward and Richard.[1] However, more recent research concludes otherwise. Robert Charles Anderson in the Great Migration series, (Volume 1,A-B p 371) states that he was baptized on 12 Feb 1614 at St Dionis Backchurch, London, son of Edward and Anne (Bastian) Boyston citing the work of Don C Stone, The Boyston Family in England and Their Connection with the Pipe Family (Unpublished manuscript 1997) p 15.[2] This view is also supported by Gary Boyd Roberts author of Ancestors of American Presidents (2009).[6]
Thomas was baptized 12 Feb 1614. Thomas Boylston, aged 20, signed up for passage on the ship Defence on 2 July 1635. The last passengers to sign up did so on 17 July, so the ship probably sailed within a day or two after that. Thomas came to Massachusetts and settled in Watertown.[3]
Thomas Boylston married Sarah (Unknown) between 1635 and 1640. They had the following children:[1]
On 26 July 1652, he pledged his half house in Watertown for the benefit of his wife and children,[4] He died before 4 Oct 1653, when his wife was appointed administrator of his estate.[1] Also, an inventory was taken of the estate of Thomas Boylston, "late of Watertown deceased", debtor, in 1653.[5] He was certainly dead before 12 March 1654/5[2] when his widow married John Chinery.[1] Sarah d. 14 Sept. 1704.
