About Thomas Elijah Deaton, Jr.
Burial record:
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/134050017/thomas-elijah-deaton
The old Deaton home place in Montgomery County, North Carolina was founded in 1768 when Thomas Deaton, Jr., who was probably born in Virginia, bought some land on the Little River in Anson County. (Note: Montgomery County was then a part of Anson County.)
"... On October 14, 1772, Thomas Deaton was appointed overseer of the road, from John Smith adjunct to Samuel Parsons....... Thomas Deaton also signed the petition for the formation of Montgomery County to be formed from Anson County...." 14 OCT 1772
In 1750, a "Thomas Deaton" was fined one levy by Colonel Kennon for public drunkenness. The levy fine required Thomas to turn over fifty pounds of tobacco. This "Thomas" was probably Thomas, Jr. (Source is the "British Head count for 1750.")
Note: there are no documents surviving which prove conclusively that the younger Thomas, Jr. was the son of Thomas, Sr. The above land transaction record in 1768 for Thomas, Jr., however, is one of only two known 'Thomas Deaton' family records for the area (the other details the
arrival to Virginia of the elder Thomas in 1701).
