Thomas, Charity and James Dudley In 1821 Thomas Dudley is listed in the tax list for Bartholomew Co., IN. Thomas remained there until his death in 1844. The will of Thomas Dudley is recorded in Bartholomew Co., IN records dated May 14, 1844. This is proof that Thomas did not die in Far West. Charity Dudley is listed in the 1850 census for Flatrock, Bartholomew Co. IN, this is proof that Charity did not die in Far West. Neither of them ever were in Far West.

James Dudley and his family however did go to Far West. James did not die in Far West either. It is not know if Celia Ross Dudley did die in Far West or shortly after on the 10 day trip to Quincy, Illinois. nor do we know if Celia died on or made the journey to Nauvoo by 1840, But James Dudley is found in Quincy in the 1840 census, a women of Celia's age is not mentioned so we have to guess that she died before the move to the Morley Settlement. No death record for Celia has been found. Nor is she listed in the Morley Settlement records by Sept. 1840. James Dudley and his three daughters Lucinda, Mahala and Cynthia Ann Dudley are found in the "Early Branches of the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints" 1830-1850 by Lyman D. Platt.

This is the will for Thomas Dudley of Green Co., Kentucky. Thomas married Charity Davis.

Indiana Court Bartholomew County

Be it remembered on the 14th day of May in the year 1844 a written will purporting to be the last will and testament of Thomas Dudley late of said county deceased. Hearing date the 29th day of January 1844 and attested and subscribed by Nicholas Jones Jr. and John Turner was brought into the probate court of said county, produced and offered by John Turner for having proof and probate and said Nicholas Jones Jr. being duly sworn and by the court particularly examined and enquired of touching the fact and circumstances of the execution subscribing and attesting of said will and it is appearing to the satisfaction of the court upon the examination of said Nicholas Jones Jr. that said will is genuine and valid and thereupon the said will is admitted to proof and probate and the said Nicholas Jones Jr. makes oath and swears that he saw the said Thomas Dudley sign, seal and publish and declare the said will to be his last will and testament. And that he was at the time of executing the same of sound mind and memory and of full age to, to devise his property and that he the said Testator was not at the time thereof under coercion and restraint that he attested and subscribed the said will in presence of the said Testator and at his request. I, Thomas Dudley of Bartholomew County in the State of Indiana being of sound mind and judgment do make and publish this my last will and testament here by revoking and making void all former wills and testaments by me at any time heretofore made and as to such worldly Estate as it has pleased God to entrust me with. I dispose of the same in the following manner towith: First, that I give and bequeath unto my daughter Winnie, during her natural lifetime the farm upon which I now live, Known and designates as follows towith: the east half of the east, east half of the north east half quarter of section thirty six in township ten of range six of the land subject to sell in the Indianapolis district Indiana and containing forty acres be the same more or less it being for the better maintenance of her and her children during her lifetime and no longer, also I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Charity jointly with my daughter Winnie all my household kitchen furniture and also five head of sheep and two miles of corn to have and to keep for the better maintenance of my Charity in her natural lifetime. And then to the use of my daughter Winnie for the full part of my estate which she is to have. Secondly I devise that all the remainder of my estate that is personal belongings and divided equally among the rest of my children in equal shares after the expenses and debt that may be against the estate is paid off and it is my will that at the decease of my wife Charity and the decease of my daughter Winnie that the real estate bequeaths to my daughter Winnie be sold or disposed of in the best possible manner. And the proceeds be equally divided among all my children including the children of my daughter Winnie in equal shares of all the children or representatives of any of my children's deceased and with time of such division or distribution are to be entitled to such share as their respective ancestors would have been entitled to receive of there living. In witness thereof I Thomas Dudley there testator have herewith signed my name and seal this 29th day of January in the year of our Lord 1844. Thomas (X) Dudley signed, sealed and declared by the above named Thomas Dudley as his last will and testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses thereof in the presence of the said testator and in the presence in each other. Boardman clerk of the probate court of said county do hereby certify that the written and foregoing will has been duly admitted to probate before the probate court of said county and that the a full and complete record of said will and the proof and examination of Nicholas Jones Jr. the witness by whom the same was proven have been duly recorded in the record of Wills Book A page 1
