ACCIDENT NO. 50 — August 29, 1910 — Thomas Gasparovitch, No. 9 Shaft, South Hecla, C. & H.
Thomas Gasparovitch, an Austrian timberman was killed at the 62 level No. 9 shaft on this day.
An in quest over his body was held before Justice Fisher:
Joseph Sibilsky: “I work at South Hecla Mine in No. 9 Shaft, running hoisting engine at 62d level. I know the man that was killed. He was running dirt at at the same level. I was there at the time of the accident. I was standing next to him. He told me to come over to where he was pinching rock on the foot, and I went over and just then the wall plate came down and struck him on the head. Peter Malic took the wall plate off him and I called to the miners to come down and after they came down I went and got Captain Sam."
Peter Malic corroborates above.
Verdict: "We find, that the said Thomas Gasparovitch came to his death on the 29th day of August, 1910, while engaged in his work at the 62d level, North of No. 9 Shaft, South Hecla Branch of C. & H. Mining Co., from injuries received by being struck by a falling wall - plate."
