Thomas Gilbert [Crew "Charlotte" 1788]

Thomas GILBERT was the Ship's Master and he arrived in "Sydney Cove" on 26/1/1788 on "Charlotte"

Thomas left the colony in 8/5/1788 to return to England.

Thomas was originally appointed the Captain of the "Neptune" for the Second Fleet but he was replaced by Donald TRAIL before departure.

Thomas published an account A Voyage from New South Wales to Canton, in the Year 1788; with Views of the Islands discovered. By Thomas Gilbert, Esq. Commander of the Charlotte

NOTE: Some records state that Thomas was replaced because he died but this is not correct
