Thomas Goodwin was born circa 1727 in Surry County, Virginia. His parents were Theophilus Goodwin, Sr. and Elizabeth Goodwin. "Thomas Goodwin is appointed guardian to Rachel Reed, orphan of John." p. 325 of Magazine of Virginia Geneology, v. 26 n#4, 1988. Also it stated that kin Joseph Goodwin lived in Chowan Co. Then, Pg. 112 stated that kinfolk John Goodwin was a Halifax Co voter. In the same publication, 1989 Volume p.190, "John Williams (Nottoway Old Cheraw) became the guardian for Sarah Goodwin, orphan of William Goodwin." "William (pp. 51 , 198,250) had a daughter Sarah and lodged land surveys in Albemarle Co, On 2 Jan 1798, Richard Williams, orphan of David Williams, chose William Goodwin as quardian; Also..."John Hatley, 200 acres Surry Co, S side of Nottoway River bound by THOMAS GOODWIN, signed Hatley's L and John Foster with, 5 Jun 1736. This had been land of John Williams or adjoining. In the 1900 volume of this same publication, it reads :Joseph, Hannah, Margaret, Sarah, William Goodwin, 209, 259 orphans of William Goodwin were appointed to Margaret as guardian. In 1735, Brunswick Co, Va (same land, new county name), THOMAS GOODWIN's estate acct made pyment to Mr Aldridge, atty for Richard EVANS, John DAVIS, John WALL, Administrator of Thomas Goodwin, exhibited this acct. due from Hodges Goodwin, an heir of said Thomas G Goodwin.

Wills and Deeds of Surry County, VA 1730, vol 8, part 1: THOMAS GOODWIN of Surry and Sussex Co, VA first married MARTHA __________and had a will dated 1730 and proved on Oct 20, 1731 in Surry Co. It was torn and only showed some of his children: John Goodwin, his son was executor, alond with Edward Goodrick and Arthur Kavanaugh. Children by Mary: Francis and William, both minors in 1730. Children by Martha: John, Thomas, Penelope, Amy. John executed his father's will in Surry Co, and later moved to SC where he died in 1764. Thomas Goodwin married Martha Thweatt, daughter of John Thweatt and had John, Matthew, Joseph, Tabitha, David, Amy, and James. Penelope married Mr. Taylor. Amy married John Scott, Jr.
