About Thomas Hyndes Green

AN OLD COLONIST. THE LATE MR. THOMAS HYNDES GREEN. (See image.) Mr. Thomas Hyndes Green, who died at Casino on Tuesday last, was one of those pioneers whose life has a close association with the story of Queensland's development. Mr. Green arrived from England. in the early thirties, and obtained a situation at the Waterloo Stores, Sydney. After some years' work there he came to Brisbane and opened a business as a stock and station agent. He took an active interest in all that suggested progress to the young colongy, and was associated with the Ipswich steamer companies. After a few years Mr. Green sold his business to Messrs. J. and G. Harris, and went back to Sydney, where he carried on mercantile pursuits for a time. Subsequently he obtained a position as forest ranger, and for over thirty years was a resident of Casino. He lived through the most interesting years in the history of the Southern part of Queensland, and of New South Wales. Everywhere he earned the good wishes of friends, and many of the older colonists of Queensland have a warm remembrance of Thomas Green. The late Mr. Green was an uncle of Mr. W. J. Costin, chemist, of the Valley, and was a grand uncle of Mr. C. W. Costin, Clerk of the Queensland Legislative Council. From The Brisbane Courier Sat 8 June 1907
