Thomas Jefferson Gustin and family were in the second party of Mormons to arrive in the Salt Lake Valley.  They traveled with the Daniel Spence Company, also known as the First Hundred, who left the Elkhorn River, 27 miles west of Winter Quarters, on June 17-18, 1947.
