Thomas Hampton Jr (or Thomas H Hampton,
Thomas Hampton Jr (or Thomas H Hampton, as he signed his will) is the ancestor of the Isle of Wight and Frederick County, Va. Hamptons.
Died testate; will signed June 28, 1703, proved Dec. 9, 1703 Isle of Wight Co., Virginia. He left a substantial estate. He named six of his children in his will and specified that each was to receive a thousand pounds of tobacco in cask when they came of age. He designated specific gifts of land at Kingsale Swamp, guns, tools, stock, horses, feather beds, and rugs to his children. His wife Elizabeth was named executrix. There was no mention of the Nansemondland, and it has been suggested thatwhen Thomas married a Quaker, his Episcopal father disinherited him. Source: Mrs. Cleve Byers of Weatherford, TX.
After Thomas's marriage to Elizabeth Bridle her parents, Francis and Mary Bridle, deeded them land in Isle of Wight County, and they made their home there. The Bridles were Quakers, and Thomas joined the Chuckatuck Meeting. Thomas and Elizabeth hadsix children but none of their births are registered in Quaker records.
