  1. 11587: Son of Col. Ann Hawkes Hay and his wife Martha Smith. He was a lawyer. Husband of Sarah Smith, his first cousin. Came to Savannah GA to practice law and brought two daughters, Matilda and Charlotte, with him. Later removed to Beaufort District and sent for his widowed mother and several family members including his brother Lewis Scott Hay. It is assumed he was visiting New York when he died. A colonel in the war of 1812.
