About Thomas Hubbard
" Thomas Sr. (bn ca 1745/died ca 1830 Clay Co Ky.) moved his large family from south central VA to northern Wilkes Co NC (the section that later became Ashe Co.) in the late 1780's. All but William and possibly sons Randall/Randolph and Edward/Edmond left NC ca 1809 and relocated to KY - James to the area that is now the Clay/Knox county line and the others to the Cane Springs area of Madison Co Ky.
Then, about 1815 the Madison Co group, with possibly the exception of Thomas Jr., moved down to join James along the Clay/Knox County line. William, who had remained in NC and not traveled to Ky with his father and brothers, then joined them.
Thomas Sr and sons Benjamin, William, Mathew, & Richard lived on the Clay Co side of the "ridge" and operated a saw and grist mill.
Son Moses Sr. and his children lived on the Knox Co side of the "ridge" and evidentally also operated a mill. Before the days of modern highways, there was a mule/horse trail over the ridge that connected the two areas, so the families traveled back and forth easily. (In present day, there is no road in that location, so it is not as obvious to us how close the families actually were back then.)That is why, in early census and tax record, you'll see a Hubbard living in Clay County one year and Knox County another time - to them it was one big neighborhood."
Thomas married Frances "Fannie" Hollingsworth, and they had 12 children that I know of.
