About Thomas Hyland III
Thomas Hyland III was a member of one of the founding families of Scituate, Massachusetts.
Hyland was born November 15, 1629 in Tenterden, England. He arrived in Scituate in 1638 with his parents and siblings. His father, Thomas Hyland Jr., was one of the earliest proprietors of the town. The family's surname has various spellings in genealogical texts (including "Hiland"), but the Scituate Historical Society says "Hyland" is the variation most common in local records.
With his wife, Elizabeth Stockbridge, whom he married in 1661, his children were:
- Thomas, b. 1662 - d. 1690 in Phipp's Canada expidition
- Elizabeth, b. 1665
- Mary, b. 1667
- John, b. 1669, m. Elizabeth James in 1693
- Ruth, b. 1673
Thomas died in Scituate in 1688.
