This difficult profile is very dear to me ( he is my 2nd great grandfather) but I found him extremely difficult to pinpoint, due to birthname differentiations and parent mix-ups on Geni. Proceed with caution! Any help would be greatly appreciated! WB

Marriage was in 1905 - certificate shows his age recorded as 33 years, thus estimated dob is 1872.

EDIT - he was much older than his wife so may have declared himself to be a few years younger than he actually was. Or perhaps an honest mistake. So he was much older then her, when he got married to her - she only being 18 years! Big difference! WB

Parents: Is it possible that he could actually be the son of Gideon Johannes Slabbert and Maria Elisabeth Venter, instead of Gideon Johannes Slabbert and Maria Adriaan Ferreyra (Ferreira)? Research is ongoing! I now believe this is/was possibly a red herring! - WB Thanks dear Pat and Phillipp!

His brother David Hercules Slabbert (*1881) can be linked as well - there are other siblings, baptism records need to be scrolled though....

I have questions if this David Hercules (1881) was actually his brother. There are more than one David Hercules in this Slabbert's male line - very confusing! Also they switched the David and Hercules around! I have also picked up more than one nicknamed Herkie! ( Unless those Herkies were the same person and then we are in BIG trouble!!!) Let's discuss! His parents were Gert Petrus Johannes SLABBERT and Cecilia Johanna FERREIRA

So assumption - he was baptised Thomas Ignatius then decided to change his second name to EDWARD. He did this before his marriage in 1905. His name on baptism records of children confirms this - so too do his name on his Civil Death Registration document in 1949 and his grave record from the eGGSA Cemetery CD
