From my research, WWII Service: Thomas James Arledge joined the Army for active service at Fort Sheridan, Illinois on June 21. 1944 and attended training course for driving a Light Cargo Carrier M-29 on Dec.13. 1944 at Fort George in MD. Prior to joining the Army, he was employed by the Cadillac Motors Corporation Detroit, Michigan for 16 months as a Test Driver. Drove M-5-8-Light Tanks under abnormal conditions along testing grounds. Attended in protective clothing drove tanks at high speed over obstacles. He departed USA December 26 1944, Destination: ETO. (European Theater Of Operation) Arrived Jan.8.1945.

He served with Company "A" in 35th Tank Battalion, which was assigned to the 4th Armored Division. The 4th Armored Division - under Major General John "Tiger" Wood's Command - was part of the US 3rd Army, which again was commanded by General G.S.Patton.

He TJ Arledge participated in 3 theaters of war in Europe: • Rhineland 15 Sep 44 - 21 Mar 45 • Ardennes-Alsace 16 Dec 44 - 25 Jan 45 (Incl. Battle of Bulge) • Central Europe 22 Mar 45 - 11 May 45 Medals: - EAME Theater Ribbon with 3 bronze stars. - Army, Good Conduct Medal - Victory Medal - Distinguished Unit Badge - Remarks: NO DAYS LOST UNDER AW 107 LAPEL BUTTON ISSUED ASR (2 SEP 45) 51 His Separation Qualification Record states he had: - served as a Medium Tank Crewman, attained the position of Sergeant, and served 14 1/2 month with Company "A" - As a member of a crew in a medium tank used in the attack of enemy positions, performed the duties of a gunner, driver and tank commander. After the Germans capitulated and until his return t the US in March 1946, he was stationed in Bavaria, in Bayreuth/Landshut area. His battalion – 35th Tank Battalion – was re-designated as the 35th Constabulary Squadron He departed Europe March 03. 1946. Destination: USA. Arrived March 11.1946. Honorable Discharge. Date of Separation, March 16. 1946 at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. Reason for Separation: CONVN GOVT RR 1-1 (DEMOBILIZATION) May 24.2020 TAS
