About Thomas Jones, Sr.

Like many other Colonial Virginia planters, Thomas Jones, purchased and sold land frequently during his life. At one time he owned as much as 2191acres of Land in southern Amelia Co. along tributaries of the Appomattox River. The date of his move to Lunenburg County is unknown. Lunenburg county included the property on Ash Camp Creek, He was probably living on the lunenburg land at the time of his death in 1748. From his Will: "In the name of God amen I thomas Jones of Lunenburg County am very sick and weak in body but of sound mind perfect sense and memory thanks to God for the same do make and ordain this my last will and testament in a manner following:

It is my will and desire that my well beloved daughter elizabeth jones do keep to her and her hiers forever what she has had from me as their part and proportion of my said estate

It is likewise my Will and Desire that my Beloved Sone Godfrey Jones do keep to himself and his Heirs forever all the estate that he is now possessed with as his part and proportion of my said estate.

I give unto my well Beloved Sons David and Thomas Jones all the lands that I now possessed with, to be equally divided between them and their Heirs forever.

I give and Bequeath unto my aforesaid son David Jones Willand Judy to him and his heirs forever.

It is my will ad Desire that my Executor do Execute deed of Conveyance in fee simple to James Easter for the lands he now lives upon Containing two humdred acres more or less which the said Easter shall likewise make a deed of Conveyance in fee simple for a certain piece or parcel of Land which I purchases of him adjoining the Lands wherer I now live upon Containing three hundred and odd acres.

It is my wil and desire that the Remainer of my estate after my just debrs being first paid to equally divided between my loving wife and Children namely David,. Rachel, Thomas, Dorothy, Martha, and Mary Jones, to be divided at the descretion of my Executors hereafter named.

It is my desire that my sone Thomas Jones be bound out to a carpenter's trade.

It is my will and desire that my estate be not inventoried nor apprasied

I do hereby nominte constitute and appoint my well beloved wife Amey Jones Executrix an my two Sons Godfrey and David Jones Executors of this last will adn Testament given under my hand and Seal this 5th day of November 1740
