Lawyer, poet, columnist for the Free Lance Star and for the Richmond Times-Dispatch. A delegate from King George and Stafford Counties in the 1918 and 1920 sessions of the General Assembly. Served as a member of the King George County school board,for a short time as a trial justice.

Was Poet Laureate of Virginia in 1948.

Father of Anna Campbell Stewart Hunter, Rose Marie Turner Hunter.

Died of a heart ailment.
