From Salopian Shreds and Patches a Garland of Shropshire Speacialities, Published 1891 Page. 277

"The Salopian Mackworths - This family I apprehend had been settled for some generations in Derbyshire, before they went to Shropshire, nor is it very clear how they did get there at first, unless it be through one Thomas Mackworth, who had a grant of lands made to him at Meole Brace in the 23rd year of Henry VII (abt. 1508). The first person I have seen mentioned as dwelling there is Arthur Mackworth, son of the above named Thomas, and he married Jane Barker, by whom he had a second son, who has been described as John Mackworth, of Shrewsbury, who married Elizabeth Hosier, of the same town. Thomas Mackworth, living in the 27th year (abt. 1580) of Queen Elizabeth, is called of Bretton Grange, and marrying Dorthy Lee, of Langley, he had a son by her, Richard Macworth of Bretton Grange, who married Dorothy Carnage, and was father of Humphrey Mackworth, who succeeded to Bretton Grange, became Governor of Shrewsbury under the Parliament, and some say M. P. for the county. He married Annie Waller, of Beaconsfield (sp.), in Buckinghamshire, and had by her two sons, (1) Thomas, who is said to have been M. P. for Salop, and who, in 1652, married Anne Balkeley, of Batingdale, and whose eldest son, Balkeley Mackworth, died unmarried in 1730: (2) Humphrey, who is called Town Clerk of Shrewsbury, M. P. for the Borough, and Governor of the town in succession to his father."
