About Thomas Andrew McCrary, III, P.E.

Born at Arlington Hospital at 10 am in Arlington Virginia on July 21, 1969 when the world was captured in wonder by the United States successfully landing the first human on the moon. Headlines in the paper were "Man Walks on Moon".

Attended public schools in Arlington County and graduated June 1987 from Washington-Lee High School. Member of the rifle team and varsity captain for three years. Member of the school band Freshman through Junior year playing saxophone in concert, jazz and marching bands but transferred to the football team senior year played defensive back for the Generals, jersey number 25.

Attended Cherrydale Baptist Church starting in Junior High and there met Christina Rhodes where he started dating at a church trip to Baltimore to attend an Orioles Baseball game on August 3, 1985.

Matriculated in August 1987 to the Virginia Military Institute and shot varsity on the rifle team as a fourth classman (Freshman). Was a member of Bravo company. Civil Engineering major, Army ROTC. Graduated as a "virgin private" having never held rank (a proud accomplishment), served senior year as the Bravo company guide-on (carried the company flag at parades and formations). This was an honor afforded the senior member of the company that was a private. The class of 1991 was given the option to defer pursuing a commission at graduation which he took advantage of and therefore was considered a "special student" and released from ROTC training formations so the instructors could focus on students wishing to be offered a commission. After graduation entered the private sector but was hired by the US Navy as an environmental engineer in August 1991.

Worked for Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), Chesapeake Division at the Washington Navy Yard which became Engineering Field Activity, Chesapeake and later NAVFAC Washington. Went to George Washington University at night to pursue a Master Degree and graduated in August 2000 with a Masters in Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Married Christina at Cherrydale Baptist Church, Arlington, Virginia on April 4, 1992. Tom and Tina had two boys during this period, Thomas Andrew McCrary IV, born August 14, 1997 at Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia and Luke Rhodes McCrary born at Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax, Virginia on November 1, 1999. Tina was also born in Fairfax Hospital just a few year earlier ;-) .

Moved to NAVFAC Headquarters in December 2000 to work as a Military Construction (MILCON) Program Manager. While working at NAVFAC he obtain Professional Engineer certification in June 2005. In April 2005 he left the government to work for CACI as staff support to Commander, Navy Installation Command (CNIC) in the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Office where he developed the first budget for the 2005 round of BRAC and co-chaired seven BRAC actions including transformation of the Military Correctional Facilities, Consolidation of Navy Media Centers, Consolidation of Defense Intelligence Agencies to Quantico VA, Closure of Walter Reed Medical Center Bethesda and combining with National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD and ending of leased space in Crystal City, Arlington, VA.
