About Thomas William McFate
Thomas William (or Williams) McFate was the son of James McFate and Elizabeth Williams. His first marriage was on March 10, 1853 in Spanish Fork, Utah, Utah to Sara Francis Doherity. They were the parents of ten children. Sara died on July 16, 1877 in Grass Valley, Nevada, California. His second marriage was to the widow Mary Ann Lewis Hodge, about 1880 in Juab County, Utah. They were the parents of five children.
Thomas W. McFate, aged 76 years, died at his home in this city from asthma and general debility last Saturday morning. He had been in a very critical condition for several weeks and the members of the family realized that he could not recover. The deceased was a native of Pennsylvania and, together with his family, has resided in this city for the past sixteen years. A wife and eight children, four boys and four girls, survive him.
Funeral services were conducted at St. Patrick's Church Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Father O'Donohue. A large number of relatives and friends accompanied the remains to the Eureka Cemetery where they were laid at rest. ("Death of T. W. McFate", The Eureka Reporter, April 1906)
