Source <http://personal.inet.fi/koti/katharina.mead/page182.html>: "The Meade family in Essex
The ancestors of the Meade family in the north-west corner of Essex were Thomas Mede of Somerset and his brother William. They are said to have come from Somerset during the reign of Henry VI, probably during or soon after the second part of his reign in 1470-71. The first mention of Thomas Mede is in 1472, when he bought land in Henham. By 1482 he and his brother lived in Clavering, and they are mentioned several times there in the 1490s. Thomas left a will, dated 1504, which is registered in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury. In addition to his brother William, he mentions his wife Johane or Joan, and their four sons Robert, Thomas, Richard and John.
The following is an account of the Meade family that settled in Elmdon. It was written by John Mead, is dated May 1977, and is located in the Essex Record Office. He believes that the Medes may have come from Somerset to Essex with the assistance of their cousin Isabel and her husband Maurice Berkeley, who had been granted the manor of Great Chesterford, which is about three miles from Elmdon and five miles from Clavering. John Meade takes up the story with Thomas Mede of Stapleford, Cambridgeshire, the son of Thomas Mede's son Thomas...." ___________________________________ Source <http://www.hancockcountyhistoricalsociety.com/reference/vf.php?t=su...>: "...
