Thomas Mitchell of Malden/Charlestown

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Mitchell-153

It has been stated that Thomas Mitchell who married at Malden Nov 1655 to Mary Molton might be the grandson of Francis Cooke.[1] Robert Wakefield believes the records establish that they are not the same man.[2]

Deeds showing the family presence in Malden/Charlestown:[2]

Disambiguation

There seem to be three Thomas Mitchells that are confused

  • 1. Thomas Michell, son of Experience and Jane (Cooke) Mitchell
  • 2. Thomas Mitchell of Malden. (This profile)
  • 3. Thomas Mitchell of Block Island

These are probably all distinct Thomas Mitchells

In the years 1661, 1666, 1669, 1670, 1672, Deeds were being made and confirmed by Thomas Mitchell of Plymouth. Some of these deeds mention his father Experience Mitchell and grandfather Francis Cooke. Thereby proving that the Thomas of Malden/Charlestown (this profile) was not the son of Experience Mitchell. Thomas the son of Experience removed to Rhode Island about 1673. [2]

It is likely that this Thomas lived in the part of Charlestown that became Malden from his marriage in 1655 until his death 1 Sept 1709.[2]

  • THOMAS, 2nd known child of Experience & Jane (Cooke) Mitchell, was born at Plymouth say 1630. In 1936 Merton Taylor Goodrich argued at length that this Thomas Mitchell was the same as a man of that name who appeared on Block Island by 1678 and had a family there [TAG 12:93-99; see also NEHGR 82:457-58, which does not make this claim]. Others who have agreed with this position are G. Andrews Moriarty and Robert S. Wakefield. Source: Anderson's Great Migration Begins.
