Non-Compos Mentis

Thomas Pincin of Scituate was examined in May 1732 and judged by the town's selectmen to be under "distration of mind," or non-compos mentis and in need of a guardian for himself and his estate. It was ordered by the court that his estate be appraised, which was done on 10 October 1732. His estate included the usual household furniture and supplies and farming tools. Also in the inventory were named Meriah an enslaved black woman and Cesar an enslaved black man both said to be "well cloth'd". The real estate included his farm of upland, swamp land, and saltmarsh of about 10 acres, and a parcel of land at or near Musiongus [?] of about 250 acres. Thomas Briant and Sarah Pinchion were appointed as his guardians.[1][2]

He died on 24 October 1732.

Probate

Sarah Pinchon of Scituate, widow, and Joseph House of Hanover yeoman, and Thomas Stockbridge yeoman of Scituate, and James Hatch of Hanover yeoman, gave bond to administer his estate on 23 January 1732[/3].[1] The account of his estate shows charges of the estate, one mentioning his care from "12 July last till his death on 24 October 1732."[3]

His inventory was taken on 1 May 1733 in Scituate.[4]

A settlement agreement[1][5] on the estate of Thomas Pinchin late of Scituate, deceased, was made on 14 May 1734. Sarah Pincin, widow of the deceased, for her thirds, or dower right, during her natural life to have 33 acres of the homestead, with use of the great lower room and chamber over it in the dwelling house, and half of the barn. The remainder of the real estate was divided into 6 equal parts.

To the children and heirs of Joanna Thorn deceased who was the wife of Joseph Thorn of Hingham, one of the sisters of the deceased.
To Elizabeth Merrit, the wife of John Merrit of Scituate, one of the sisters of the deceased
To the children and heirs of Mary Blossom, deceased, who was the wife of Joseph Blossom of Barnstable and one of the sisters of the deceased.
To the children and heirs of Sarah House, deceased, who was the wife of Samuel House of Scituate, and one of the sisters of the deceased.
To the heirs of Bathsheba Wade who was the wife of Joseph Nichols of Scituate and Nicholas Wade of Scituate and one of the sisters of the deceased.
To Ebenezer Pinchon of Scituate, brother of the deceased
In 1742, Sarah presented an account of his estate, and the sale of land.[6][7]

In 1762, another distribution of undisposed real estate was set out to his siblings, the heirs of Ebenezer Pincin, decd., the heirs of Sarah House, decd., the heirs of Joannah Thom, decd., the heirs of Mary Blossom, decd., and David Merritt, as assigned to Elizabeth Merrit, and the heirs of Bathsheba Wade, decd.[8]

Research Notes

I found a secondary source that says that Thomas Pinson and Sarah Stockbridge are the parents of Aaron Pinson. Parents can be detached until we find a primary source that corroborates it.[9]

5/21/2021--the source you quote is not a secondary source, but rather an unbased and senseless bag of conjectures in the form of a pedigree page. Aaron Pinson (Pinson-63) was first found in Virginia records in May 1727 living up the Rappahanouk River near Fredericksburg in northern Virginia. He was not born in Lunenburg County Va in the southern part of the state as claimed, because it wasn't formed until 1746 and he wasn't in the area until c. 1732. Furthermore if the Scituate MA Thomas Pinson was his father and did remain in Massachusetts, how could a son be born in Virginia? Furthermore, since Aaron Pinson died in 1758, he would have been named on the 1734 settlement agreement above (kudos on that. Good work). Furthermore, it is almost certain that Aaron had a brother Thomas in adjacent Prince William County Virginia in the 1730's and 40's. Which presents a big problem because then the Thomas of this page would have had two sons named Thomas, one in Virginia and one in Massachusetts. Furthermore, there is a probable father for both Thomas and Aaron Pinson of Virginia who was just down river from them in Lancaster County Va and both Thomas Sr and Jr built and operated Grist mills. Long story short....Someone printed the illogical construct that a Virginia Pinson was the son of a Massachusetts Pincin without research and use of logic and others stupidly copied it and reprinted. Garbage in Garbage out. Forget that theory. G. Pinson (Pinson 796).
