Biography
Thomas Prentice, the second, of that part of Cambridge, Massachusetts on the south side of the river, (now Newton), brother of James Prentice. Sr., and son of Robert Prentice, of Roxbury, Massachusetts, and nephew of Thomas Prentice, the trooper, of Newton, Massachusetts, was born in England in 1632 or 1633. He with his brother James bought their farm together in Newton, in 1657, and were among the first settlers there.
- 1650: March 1: Thomas Danforth, attorney for Thomas Parish and wife Mary, of Nayland, County of Suffolk, England, deeds to James and Thomas Prentice, Jr., both of Cambridge, Mass., 400 acres of land in Cambridge, which was given to Parish by the inhabitants of Cambridge (per town books).
- 1657: Thomas Parish sold 100 acres of land, that farm that James Prentice now dwells on, to James and Thomas Prentice for £61."
- 1688: Thomas authorizes his brother-in-law Jonathan Jackson to sell the land he inherited from his father-in-law Edward, in his 1681 will.
- 1694: Thomas Sr. and Rebecca, his wife, conveyed lands to Rev. Hobart.
- 1706: Thomas conveyed lands to his grandsons Thomas and Samuel.
- 1713: In the affidavit of Thomas Prentice, the second, in 1713, he says: "About 60 years ago (1653) I held the end of a chain to lay out a highway in Newton"; which would make him about 91 at his death in 1722.
- 1713: May 3: , Thomas Prentice Sr., made a gift-deed to Thomas Prentice, Jr., of Burnt Hill, in Newton, adjoining the new dwelling-house of said Thomas Prentice Sr, (after his decease), except that he had allowed my son-in-law, John Hyde, and reserving 2/3 of the cedar swamp to my sons, John and Edward Prentice"; acknowledged May 4, * * 1714, and recorded Jan. 24, 1724.
- 1714: Thomas gifted lands to his son John.
- 1724: January 24: The 1713/4 deed of lands of son Thomas Jr. was recorded, indicating that Thomas Sr. had died prior to this date.
- 1686: 90: 99: 1700. Served as Selectman at Newton. He married Rebecca, daughter of Edward Jackson, Sr., by his first wife, Elizabeth.
Rebecca, was born in England, 1632 or 1633, and baptized in London, at White Chapel Parish, October 10, 1633 (per its register). She was a sister of Elizabeth Jackson, the first wife of John, son of Capt. Thomas Prentice, the trooper, of Newton.
In the will of Edward Jackson, recorded at Cambridge, August 26, 1681, daughter Rebecca (by his first wife) was given a gold ring and her husband Thomas Prentice was bequeathed 100 acres of land.
Thomas Prentice, Sr., died at Newton, Massachusetts at great age, ae. 90 or 91, in 1722.
Rebecca's death date is unknown.

- James, born___ ; died in 1719; married Elizabeth Bartlett about March 8, 1708/9 at Newton.
- Sarah, born ___ ; died at Newton on March 8, 1712/13; married John Hyde (son of John and grandson of Dea. # Samuel Hyde), May 15, 1707, at Newton.
