Thomas Preston, son of John Preston and Margaret Curwen, married Margaret Fytche, daughter and heiress of Roger Fytche of Ellel, the owner of the vast Cockerham Estates and thenceforward, with his descendents, became identified with that county seat. Thomas and Margaret had issue as follows:

1.) William Preston -- Born about 1560 at Cockerham, married and had issue. His wife died June 1612 and he died May 1623. Son and heir William Preston, born about 1590, was a partisan of King Charles I during the English Civil War.

4.) Roger Preston who married Alice Parry, daughter of William Parry of Membury in Devonshire, and who removing from his father's estate and county established himself at Up - Ottery in Devonshire. Roger and Alice had issue, Henry Preston of Up - Ottery and Roger Preston.
