Thomas Rickman

Halifax County, Virginia P-2-395 May Court 1759 "On the motion of Thomas Rickman and for reasons appearing to the court he is exempted from the payment of public and County levys for the future."

Halifax County, Virginia Will Book O-106 Thomas signed the will on March 12th but it is presented in court by Robert Rickman, Executor, on March 19th. Therefore, he died between March 12 and March 19, 1761. The inventory was presented on April 1st, 1761. Will Book O-118.

The will of Thomas Rickman presents so many questions The first children he names: Christopher, Gideon, Isaac, Sarah, and Rebecca were not assigned a last name. He then names son John Rickman, and daughter Mary Hudson, son Robert Rickman, grandson Robert Rickman. What is the relationship of the first five children to Thomas? Those children known with the surname Kirksey are in Chatham Co. NC as was John Rickman. There is also a property transfer from Robert Rickman to Gideon Kirksey. In c1799 John Rickman made a statement that is recorded in Chatham that he had not received anything of the estate of Rebecca Rickman. In 1800 there is a power of attorney where the legatees Gideon Kirksey, heirs of Isaac, heirs of Sarah appoint Christopher to collect for them what is due from Rebecca Rickman alias Kirksey.

Again, just what is the relationship of Gideon, Christopher, Isaac, and Sarah and Rebecca to Thomas? I cannot find them anywhere before North Carolina.
