About Thomas Shipp, Sr
Thomas was recommended as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Second Batallion of Mechlenburg Militia (VA); he was sworn in on 9 Mar 1778. Later recommended for 1st Lt. on 8 Mar 1779 and was serving as a Captain of Militia from 1799 to 1781. It is possible that he was present at the Battle of Yorktown.
Thomas abandoned his family in Georgia and returned to Halifax Co. VA circa 1800. He made a trip back to Georgia in 1801/02 in order to dispose of land and to draw up a "marriage contract", in which he dissolves the marriage after 28 years. In 1802,
he remarried, to a young widow in Halifax Co. VA and they had several children.

Thomas Shipp was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Virginia Militia, 2nd Battalion of Mecklenburg during the Revolutionary War. This battalion was stationed in Yorktown during part of the war.
