On 7 July 1716 William Pellatt the father and William Pellatt the son mortgaged their estate, including The Shine, to Thomas Isted of Lewes, gent, and Joan Alchorne of Lewes, widow, for £300. They mortgaged The Shine only to Thomas Simmons of Keymer, yeoman, for £300 on 18 August 1716 with a further charge of £100 on 20 April 1717. The same day the dower of William Pellatt the elder's wife Elizabeth was barred by final concord and the estate settled on the father for life with remainder to the son; Thomas Isted of Lewes, gent, was again trustee. On 14 June 1718 the Simmons mortgage of The Shine was assigned, with a further charge of £50, to Daniel Beard of Rottingdean, gent. On 12-14 March 1719 the estate, including The Shine, was sold for £1520 to French Broomfield of Lewes, esq. The mortgagees or their representatives (Daniel Beard, Elizabeth Isted of Lewes, widow of Thomas Isted, Ann Uridge of Lewes, widow and John Alchorne of Buxted, yeoman, the executors of Joan Alchorne, and Thomas Simmons of Brighton, maltster) assigned their terms to George Goring of Chailey, esq, and Edward Medley of the Middle Temple, esq, in trust for Broomfield.
