About Thomas Smith
- Thomas Smith was convicted of “Housebreaking” at Berkshire Assizes and sentenced to Life Transpirtation, he arrived NSW aboard “ Marquis of Hastings 3” on 12 Oct 1828 with his occupation noted as “blacksmith”.
- CONVICT APPLICATIONS TO MARRY: Thomas Smith & Harriet Owen both bonded approved Sutton Forest 5 Sept 1837.
- Thomas Smith was granted a TOL on 18 Dec 1837 by Bong Bong Bench NSW and later he was granted a Conditional Parole on 13 Aug 1845.
- NOTE; Some researchers have suggested he simply deserted his wife in the mid 1850’s , this may be so but evidence is not provided as to his fate (did he change his name, return overseas?)
