Cross informations for assault. This was what is called a "miscellaneous row,", in which the above persons were actors, but how to determine who gave the provocation, and who struck the first blow, was the difficulty. Evidence was given as to what occurred during the fight and previous to it, which induced the Bench to inflict a fine of £1. on Mary Bagshaw, the other informations to be dismissed, each party paying her own costs.
THOMAS STANTON V. PATRICK HEFEREN.- Information for assault and threatening language. The offence, which was that the defendant held a grubbing axe over complainant's head, and threatened to give him a piece of cold steel was proved. Fined 30s. and costs.

Trivial Assaults.—Robert Douglass was charged with assaulting a little boy named William Stanton, son of Thomas Stanton, on January 30. Mr. Way for the defendant.
After the evidence had been taken in this case—Harriet Stanton, wife of Thomas Stanton, was charged with assaulting Jane Chalmers Douglass, a little girl, daughter of Robt. Douglass. Mr Robinson appeared for the complainant, and Mr, Way for the defendant. Robert Douglass was fined 5s., and Mrs. Stanton 1s.
