About Thomas Taylor, of Wicomico Parish & Lancaster County

Notes:

Col John Taylor Sr. (Thomas Taylor's grandfather) is described sometimes as having had two wives. But the research shows that the second wife didn't exist. Widow Elizabeth Taylor went to court in 1663 for her orphans. She was not Elizabeth Horton, as is sometimes portrayed. This is due to a likely mixup with Elizabeth (Flowers) Taylor HORTON Hughes, and confusion with another John Taylor of Lancaster, a younger man dying around the same time as this John Taylor, unfortunately.

Elizabeth (Taylor) Sallard Baker took care of the estate of her brother Richard b 1650 d 1669 as a minor. That proves their kinship.

This is also the proof that Thomas of Wicomico is the same person as Thomas of Lancaster. Thomas of Wicomico had brothers Lazarus & John who married Vezey sisters:

"O.B. 1699-1713. John Taylor and his brother Lazarus, sons of John and Alice Taylor, married sisters, Ann and Mary Veze or Vezey, daughters of George Vezey of Lancaster Co. Their brother, Thomas Taylor, married Elizabeth Therriatt, daughter of William, and granddaughter of Dominick Therriatt, also of Lancaster Co. (Note by L.H.D. These are the parents of Ana who married Ball.)"

Historical summary (from http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=kece&id=P...):

Thomas Taylor died around JUN 11 1718 when his will was recorded. He was the son of John Taylor and Alice (Gascoigne) Gaskins. He married Elizabeth Theriatt 22 OCT 1667. [SIC: after 1688]
