Thomas and his family migrated to Middlesex County, New Jersey in the mid 1600's and his decendents stayed in the area for close to a century.
MILITARY SERVICE: Colonial War Service: Credited under Capt. Jonathan Remington. Thomas Thorp: 3 pounds, 6 shillings, 0 Pence. June 24, 1676. Also recorded in Soldiers of King Phillips War, Bodge, p. 279 and New England Historical and Genealogical Register, Volume 42, page 96. LEGAL MATTERS: Thomas Thorp in list of persons subscribing to building a bridge across great Brook adjoining Thomas Lewis (now Jacques Venet's property). John Conger and Noah Bishop, who, in 1685 were appointed to prosecute anyone in Rahway or adjacent places who illegally cut the timber on the common land, were subjects of a suit brought against them by Thomas Thorp in 1687 for removing from the commons some of Thorp's dressed trees. (Ms. Spinner felt their removal was by accident) The costs fell upon the town, of course, as Conger and Bishop were acting as its agents in the matter.
