SUDDEN DEATH AT CLEVEDON.
Mr. Thomas Leddra Wallis, one of the early pioneers of this district, expired very suddenly at his late residence here on Monday at 4 p.m. In the morning Mr. Wallis complained to his wife of having great pains in his legs and back. Mrs. Wallis suggested to send for a doctor, but her husband assured her that there was no danger, and would not have a medical man sent for. In the afternoon Mr. Wallis got very much worse, and the family telephoned for Dr. Bewes, but the doctor arrived Mr. Wallis had breathed his last. The deceased has been treated for heart disease for several years, and Dr. Bewes gave a certificate as to the cause of death. Mr. Wallace was aged 74 years, and has resided at Wairoa since the year 1856.—[Own Correspondent, December 23. NEW ZEALAND HERALD, VOLUME XXVI, ISSUE 9557, 25 DECEMBER 1889
