During the life of Thomas Weaver, a war with France began. It would last through the lifetimes of his descendants of the next four generations. It began in 1337 and was known as the Hundred Years' War. It actually lasted 116 years. Some became famous for their exploits during this war. Two of them were- the Black Prince on the English side, Joan of Arc on the French side. Europe was devastated by the Black Death (Bubonic plague). By 1349 one third of the population of England had been killed by it.
