Thomas Webster was born November 24, 1616 in England, and died October 20, 1686 in Northfield, MA. On June 16, 1663 in Northampton, MA, he married Abigail Alexander (b. June 16, 1647, d. Aug. 1688), daughter of George Alexander (b. 1620, d. May 5, 1703) and Susanna Sage (b. Oct. 1, 1621, d. May 3, 1684). Thomas Webster settled early in MA, but evidently remained at or near Hartford for a time. October 28, 1651, Thomas Webster of Parmington sells land there to Capt. John Standley, and again sells land there in 1655 and 1656. In the year 1670 he was of Northampton, MA.

Soon after this period Thomas Webster settled in Northfield. "History of the Town of Northfield, Massachusetts for 150 Years" by J.H. Temple and George Sheldon (Joel Munsell, Albany 1875) includes a list of early settlers of Northfield. Among those listed (at p. 68) is:

“Thomas Webster. He was son of John Webster, governor of Connecticut; settled first in Hadley. His wife was Abigail daughter of George Alexander. They had three young children.”

Noah Webster (the lexicographer) gives the following history:

"In 1675 Northfield was attacked by Indians, and the settlement broken up, and from 1676 to 1682 Thomas Webster resided in Hadley where he had three daughters born. He afterwards returned to Northfield where he died in 1686. Northfield was again destroyed by the Indians and the settlers driven from the place . . ..”

The two sons of Thomas, George and John, and the one daughter, Thankful, of whom we have record, settled in Lebanon, CT.
