  • (15) Richard Wentworth, Esq., of Bretton, whose will is dated 13 October, 1488. He married Isabel, eldest daughter of Sir William Fitzwilliams, Kt., of Sprotborough, Co. York, by Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Thomas Chaworth, of Wiverton, Co. Notts, Kt., and had issue as follows:
    • (16) Matthew Wentworth, Esq., eldest son and heir, whose will is dated 10 November, 1505. He married Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Richard Woodrove, of Woolley, Co. York, Kt., and had issue as follows:
      • 1. Sir Thomas Wentworth, of Bretton, Knight Martial in the time of Henry VIII. He was eldest son and heir, but died without issue, having married Isabel, daughter of Thomas Wentworth, Esq., of Elmsall (probably XVI., on p. 24). Their marriage settlement is dated 1 August, 1508.
      • 2. Thomas, second of that name (as was not uncommon is those days, of whom hereafter.
      • 3. Beatrice, who married 1st, Arthur Kay, of Woodsom, Esq., and 2dly, William Arthrington, of Castley, Esq.
      • 4. Anne, who married -- Brackensby (? Brocklesby), of Lincoln.
      • 5. Mary, who married John Buxton, of Kimersley.

      • (17) Thomas Wentworth, Esq., who succeeded to his eldest brother of the same name. His will is dated 19 August, 1557. He married Anne, daughter of Roger Dyneley, Esq., of Swillington, and had issue as follows:

        • 2. Richard.
        • 3. Elizabeth, who married Bryan Snawfell, Esq., of Bilton.
        • 4. Isabel, who married Thomas Burdett, Eq., of Brithwaite, son of Richard, and grandson of Nicholas Burdett. (See back to numbers 7, 8, and 9 of (15) this note.)
        • 5. Frances, who married Stephen Lacy, Esq., of Hawkston, in Suffolk.
        • 6. Anne, who married Roger Popely, Esq., of Morehouse.

  • 1. Son and heir of Richard Wentworth of Bretton. who was third son of John Wentworth of Elmsal, by Agnes, the coheir of Dronsfield. Her arms occur as in the quartering, on the seal of John de Dronsfield in 38 Edw. III. The estate has descended to W. Blackett Beaumont, esq., of Bretton Hall.
