Thomas immigrated to the US in 1641. He was an early settler of Gravesend and Westchester NY and later a resident of Middletown NJ. His first wife was Susannah Stock. After her death he married widow of Thomas Seabrook, Mary Seabrook. Somewhere along the way the last name changed from Whitelock to Whitlock. In December 1663. Thomas was a member of the Gravesend NY (now Brooklyn) scouting expedition to Naversing (Naversink) region later Monmouth County, NJ who in defiance of the Dutch, intended to buy and settle theron.
Very likely they all, Thomas, William, John, Susannah, Abagail, Rebecca and Sarah, are the offspring of the first wife of Thomas - Susannah Stock. All his children were born before the death of his first wife Susannah. He married Mary Seabrook after Susannah's death and had a number of step children with her.
Children of Thomas and Susannah Stock Whitlock are:
- Thomas Whitlock born abt 1646-died 1676 in Monmouth Co. NJ- Some records indicate son Thomas married Katherine Dorsett
- John Thomas Whitlock born abt 1650-1673 in Monmouth Co. NJ -Married Mary (last name unknown)
- Susannah Whitlock born abt 1652 in Monmouth Co, NJ - Married John Pew - she lived to be well over 100 years old)
- Abigail Whitlock born abt 1654- died abt 1748-believe she married Samuel Ogborne Sr.
- Sarah Whitlock born abt 1658 died abt 1752
It is believed Thomas Whitlock Sr. built the first smaller section of a home, the Seabrook family extended the home after his death, which still stands today at Bayshore Waterfront Park in Port Monmouth (Shoal Harbor) Monmouth County, NJ. Other reports suggest the home Thomas Whitlock built was torn down and the Seabrook family built the home that stands today. There is no question Thomas Whitlock was a major landowner in the area. The house currently standing is often referred to as Spy House or the Seabrook Wilson Home. One of the oldest homes in the State and considered to be one of the most haunted in the country.
