About Thomas Wright, of Bedford County
Probably not the son of Thomas Wright, ll
1.Thomas WRIGHT died 1763 in Bedford, VA.
When Bedford County was formed in 1753 Thomas Wright was already living in its territory, having come from Augusta County about 1748 (Chalkley's Abstracts of Augusta County Records) and settled in the southwestern part of the county, near what is now Stewartsville. His will is among the first recorded in Bedford, and his numerous descendants have been prominent citizens of the county since its formation, many of them still living in the locality in which he lived.
Thomas Wright says in his will that he was a member of the Church of England, but his son John was a charter member of the Beaverdam Baptist Church, and the names of his wife, Elizabeth, and his son, Thomas appear in the first roll of its members. The membership of that church to the present day has been made up largely of the descendants of the first Thomas Wright, many of them having become ministers of the Gospel.
Will of Thomas Wright (Will Book "A," page 9: Made December 15, I762; probated November 22, I763; mentions wife, Mary; daughters: Elizabeth, Mary, Abigale, Sarah, Dorcas, and Catherine; sons: John, and Joseph. It refers to "land on which I did live, part of Randolph's Order.
