Francis Hyden, born 1628 and baptized August 14, 1628 in Watford, Hertfordshire, England came to America and settled in Maryland. Francis married Thomasine Butler had two daughters and a son William. Francis died in 1694 testate (see Wills 6 p 134) leaving his wife, Thomasine executrix and sole legatee.
Thomasine's will (Wills 11 fol 305) dated Sep 19, 1701 proved Nov 27, 1702 devised to her loving son William and his heirs the tract of land I now live on called "Small Hopes".
William Hyden was 49 in 1723 , hence born in 1674. His father Francis, seemed to spell the name Heyden, but his wife's will shows Hayden, which became (and remains) the usual spelling in Maryland.
