Son of Ichabod Hopkins 1744CT-1819 & Sarah I. Bigelow. Grandson of Timothy Hopkins 1723-1773MA & Jemima Scovil.

Timothy S. Hopkins came from Great Barrington to the Holland Purchase on foot in 1798 at the age of 22. He lived a few years near Clarence, NY and then removed to Amherst where he became a leading citizen of the town, being elected supervisor several times. He served as Brigadier-General in the War of 1812 and was known as General T. S. Hopkins.

On April 28, 1804 Timothy married Miss Nancy Ann Kerr, of Maryland. Theirs was the first marriage in the town of Amherst and may have been the first in Erie Co.
