Sits In It was a Dakota Sioux woman of the Lower Brule Ganktinai (Yanktonai) Sioux Tribe (Kul Wicasa Oyate) Western Dakota Band from the Crow Creek Reservation
Eastern Dakota people are comprised of four groups: The Bdewakantunwan (Mdewakanton), Wahpetunwan (Wahpeton), Wahpekute, and Sissitunwan (Sisseton) people form what is known as the Isanti (Santee).
Western Dakota people are comprised of three groups: the Yanktonai and Yankton (who identify as both Dakota and Nakota) and the Teton (Lakota).
These seven Tribes combined to form The Oceti Sakowin Oyate (People of Seven Council Fires, known to some as the Sioux Nation) and are linguistically related peoples who speak three different dialects - Dakota, Nakota, and Lakota - of the same language.
The territory of various Sioux tribes
In 1889, the United States reclaimed 7.7 million acres of the Sioux's sacred Black Hills and randomly assigned Sioux families to live on the Crow Creek Reservation, splitting up many extended families. The Crow Creek Sioux Tribe consists of the members of the Isanti and Ihanktowan divisions of the Great Sioux Nation.
The reservation was established in 1863 and is primarily made up of descendants of the Mdewakanton Dakota Tribe of south and central present-day Minnesota, as well as the Isanti and Ihanktowan Bands of the Black Hills Sioux. The Mdewakanton were expelled from Minnesota, along with the Santee Dakota Tribe and Ho-Chunk Nation after all reservations in the southern part of that state were abolished in December 1862 following the Dakota War.

Some Yankton and lower Yanktonai Dakota also reside on the reservation.
The Crow Creek Reservation is located on the east bank of the Missouri River directly across from the Lower Brule Reservation on the west bank.
Biography:
Sits in It, aka Sets in Lodge, was born c. 1846. Her parents are unknown. She appears to have been married twice having had children with each man although the names of the men are unknown.
According to Carla Joinson in her book Vanished in Hiawatha, the date Sits-in-It was admitted to the Canton Asylum is unknown, but based on census reports, she would have been admitted after June 30, 1920. She is not included in any Canton Asylum census reports, her last listing in an Indian census report was June 30, 1920. It is known that she died in the Canton ASylum on January 22, 1921, at age 75 = b.c. 1846.
According to the letter from Dr. L.L. Culp to the Commissioner of Indian Affairs dated February 17, 1934, Sits-in-It was buried in the Canton Hiawatha Cemetery tier 6 plot 35. According to FaG she was buried January 26, 1921.
Her profile is part of the The Canton Asylum One Place Study.
Research Notes:
-Date of death on Jan 22, 1921, both FaG and HMDB show Jan 26, 1921, the date of burial as date of death. Date of death used from Vanished in Hiawatha
-I've concluded that there is a person of the same name Sits on It, of the same time and place, who resided on the Pine Ridge Reservation, who has children and grandchildren but who is NOT this profile. She has an aka of Timahel Yanka (Sits on It) as opposed to Ti-Yo-Yom-Ke (Sit in It). The telling difference is the jurisdiction, the Crow Creek Agency vs. the Pine Ridge Agency.
