TRAMMER RUN OVER AND KILLED
Tom Kasunich, aged 27, married, caught by ascending skip in No. 6 shaft of the Hecla.
Tom Kasunich, a trammer, aged 27, married, was killed Saturday night about 10:45 o’clock when he was run over by an ascending skip at the 62nd level, No. 6 shaft, Hecla branch of the C & H mine.
Just how the accident occurred is not known, as there were no witnesses. According to the evidence tendered at the inquest held this morning before Coroner William Fisher, Kasunich must have heard the 3 bell signal to hoist to the surface. It is presumed he thought he had plenty of time in which to cross the skip road before the car started to hoist, and that in making this attempt he was caught by the skip, which passed over his body and head, mangling him frightfully. Death was instantaneous.
The Jury, composed of Daniel Melver, Frank Gillette, Edward Northy, George Unsworth, Albert E. Hopper, and William S. Uren, returned a verdict in accordance with the evidence. Kasunich had been a resident of the copper country for the past ten years, and was well known among the Croatia residents. He is survived by a wife and one child, residents of Croatia.
The funeral arrangements were completed following the inquest. The remains will be interred in Lake View cemetery this afternoon, with services at St. John’s Croatian church, The deceased was a member of St. Troist society, members of whom attended the last sad rites.
